Executive Insights #1: Bridging the Gap: Why We Started nPower Technologies

On August 1, 2024, I, along with a dedicated team of former ProfitKey International employees, founded nPower Technologies to create, market, and support production scheduling software tailored for additive manufacturing. Why did we take this leap? The answer is simple: we listened to our customers. Throughout my 40 years in business, many of my best ideas have come directly from customer insights, and this time was no exception.

Our journey began during a visit to a ProfitKey customer. I asked the General Manager why their unit wasn’t using the ProfitKey production scheduling module. His response was candid: “We use 3D printers for our additive manufacturing process, and your scheduler doesn’t work for us.” He was right.

Following that conversation, we delved into the additive manufacturing software landscape. What we found was surprising—there was no production scheduling software designed specifically for additive manufacturing. While other ERP software modules are equally effective for both reductive and additive manufacturing, scheduling proved to be the exception. Additive manufacturing has unique scheduling needs that traditional tools just can’t address.

So, we created nPower Technologies to bridge this gap. Our software is built specifically for scheduling in additive manufacturing and seamlessly integrates with any ERP, MES, or even Excel.

If you’re currently using Excel for your additive manufacturing scheduling, we’d love to share how our software can transform your process and deliver significant benefits over Excel.

In my next blog, I’ll highlight the advantages of production scheduling software across all types of manufacturing.

“The nPower Scheduler is the first comprehensive solution to truly address the complex scheduling requirements that result when a single additive build plate diverges into multiple post-processing operations.” – Kevin O’Keefe, CEO at nPower
